About Black & Gold Youth Football:
The philosophy of BGYFL is to give all eligible individuals the opportunity to participate in the American tradition of football and cheerleading, while enjoying a fun, safe and productive environment that enables children to learn and apply the principles of teamwork, discipline, and dedication. We will teach the fundamentals of the game and enhance the physical condition of our youth. We will promote sportsmanship and dignity during the excitement of victory, and also in the face of defeat. We will build character and self-esteem by teaching discipline, self-control, honesty and respect for oneself as well as teammates, coaches, family and community.
We are sustained by the efforts of volunteers who display an extraordinary amount of commitment and hard work, ensuring that our league is a positive influence in the lives of our children. We also strive to provide a service to our community by providing a healthy outlet for children, opportunities for the community to gather together, and endless hours of entertainment.
Our mission is to teach sportsmanship, teamwork, strength, character, discipline and dedication. We welcome all children, regardless of race, creed or national origin.
Sportsmanship:
Good sportsmanship is the most important aspect of football. We want to teach our athletes to be leaders that can rise above any situation and show that they can still perform and still be a good sport, even in a losing game. Playing fair and by the rules shows good sportsmanship. Our coaches and volunteers teach good sportsmanship by demonstrating it themselves in all aspects of coaching.
Teamwork:
Working together as a team shows greater accomplishments than being just a group of players on a team. Any team can have a lot of good players, but the team will not work if the players can not work together. Our coaches show our athletes how important team work is by following drills that require multiple players contribution. Together we can accomplish anything, alone we can only accomplish so much.
Strength:
The actual definition of strength is: the maximal force you can apply against a resistance. In football, strength can be many things. It is the effort put forth in working towards a goal, or the force used to block for a team mate. It is the power behind dedication. We want all of our athletes to know that they do have the strength to make it to their goal, whether it be a team goal or personal goal, or a physical or mental goal.
Character:
Children build character through their participation in sports and other activities. It helps them get a good understanding of what is right and what is wrong and to develop good morals. Our couches demonstrate good morals and character and instill this into our athletes with proper coaching tactics and discipline.
Discipline:
Discipline is an important element in developing hard working athletes and teams. Our coaches use positive discipline activities which instill appropriate behavior, a will to adhere to authority, order, and shows our athletes how to correct behavior.
Dedication:
Being committed to the sport, showing up every day for practice, being on time and working your hardest for yourself and your team is what we call dedication. All of our coaching staff, volunteers and board members are dedicated to BGYFL and keeping it a success. We all work as a team in making sure that our athletes also know what dedication is and why it is important.
